U.K. firms Osborne Clarke and BLM have both achieved a female majority in their latest partner promotion rounds.
U.K.-based insurance and dispute resolution law firm BLM announced its largest promotion round since 2014, making up 21 associates to its partnership. Last year, it promoted 16.
Nearly three quarters of the promotions are women, which is its highest proportion in at least 10 years, according to the firm. The promotions mean 44% of the firm's 234 partners are female.
The promotions span six of the firm's seven practice areas, including claims solutions, large loss and technical, speciality and financial lines, and commercial advisory and private wealth.
This year's promotions see just one lawyer made up in London, 12 in Manchester, two in Birmingham, one in Southampton, one in Liverpool, three in Dublin, and one in Glasgow.
Meanwhile, Osborne Clark has also had a bumper round, making up eight lawyers compared with last year's five.
Five of the eight new partners are female – the largest percentage of women the firm has made up in five years. The firm said one of the new female partners completed the process while on maternity leave, and two others are currently working part-time. The promotions will take effect from May 22 and take the partnership to 260, 23% of who are women.
BLM and Osborne Clarke are the latest law firms to announce increased promotion rounds this year, with firms citing a desire to retain talent as the key driver behind this trend.
