Irish law firm McCann Fitzgerald has expanded its international presence by appointing three partners in New York and Brussels – the first time partner appointments have been made outside of Dublin and London.
Niall Best and Doug McMahon have been promoted to partner in the firm's New York office, and Laura Treacy has been appointed partner in Brussels.
McCann FitzGerald appointed eight new partners and consultants across four of its offices, including Dublin and London. The firm now has 78 partners in total.
In addition to the partner appointments in New York and Brussels, Rosaleen Byrne has been made a partner in the firm's Dublin office, and Louise Delahunty, Catherine Austin and Barbara Linehan have been made consultants in the firm's London, Dublin and Brussels offices respectively.
"We are delighted to announce the appointment of such high-quality partners and consultants… reflecting both our growing international reach as a firm and also bringing a wealth of new experience and skills to build on the depth of talent we already have in the firm," Barry Devereux, McCann FitzGerald's managing partner, said in a statement. "These appointments represent the evolving range of skillsets required in a leading corporate law firm, with appointments in areas as diverse as EU and trade law, white-collar crime and data protection, among others."
In Brussels, Treacy advises on all aspects of EU and Irish competition and state aid law and telecommunications law, and covers EU internal market, trade and regulatory issues, with clients from the consumer, media, energy, waste and financial services sectors.
Best, one of the two promoted to partner in the New York office, specialises in advising local and multinational corporate clients on their activities in Ireland. His practice includes transactional work, such as mergers and acquisitions, multijurisdictional corporate restructurings and reorganisations, joint ventures and commercial contracts.
MacMahon, the other new partner in New York, works in McCann FitzGerald's technology and innovation group and advises on a wide range of matters including information technology, intellectual property, data protection, cybersecurity, confidentiality and freedom of information.
