Baker McKenzie's member firm in Singapore is continuing its aggressive expansion, having hired its fourth senior lawyer since March.
Capital markets specialist Xavier Amadei joins Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow as a local principal (equivalent to of counsel) after more than 14 years at Linklaters, where he was most recently counsel in Singapore.
Amadei, who is qualified in Hong Kong, New York and Paris, specialises in cross-border equity and debt offerings in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2015, he was part of the team that advised the Malaysian government on a $1.5 billion Islamic bonds sale.
During his time at Linklaters, Amadei had a four-month secondment at Goldman Sachs' Hong Kong office in 2013 and an eight-month secondment at Merrill Lynch's London office in 2006. Previously, Amadei was an associate at White & Case in New York from 2003 to 2005.
"[Amadei's] varied experience across the Asia-Pacific and south Asia will no doubt add to our team's established track record," Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow managing principal Andy Leck said in a statement, adding that the firm is optimistic about southeast Asia's growth.
Last month, Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow recruited former Allen & Overy senior finance associate Kunal Katre as a local principal; and in May, the firm hired the former head of Singaporean firm Drew & Napier's capital markets practice, Kenny Kwan, as a principal (equivalent to partner) and former K&L Gates disputes partner Ashish Chugh as a local principal.
Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow, together with Baker McKenzie's other offices in southeast Asia, is also expected to advise Myanmar-related matters as the firm plans to shrink its Yangon office.
