Moya Williams, RPC

An RPC digital marketing executive has broken a world record by deadlifting four times her own weight.

Moya Williams, who joined the City law firm two years ago, broke the record at the recent All England Powerlifting Championship, held in Northampton.

Competing in the under-57kg category, Williams deadlifted 203.5kg, a powerlifting exercise that consists of lifting a weight from the ground and holding it stationary in an upright standing position for one second or more.

She walked away from the event with overall gold in the three-discipline event, which includes deadlifting, bench press and squat lifts, lifting a total of 401kg on the day.

Williams works as part of the brand, marketing and sales team at RPC, and has trained in competitive powerlifting alongside her job for the past two years.

Williams said her training regime consists of two and a half hours after work every day and three hours on a Saturday, alongside a strict diet.

In a statement, she said: "I was nervous going into the event as I knew I had prepared well but wanted to make sure I performed on the day."

RPC managing partner James Miller said in a statement: "I was blown away when I heard the news that Moya had broken the record. We've stayed close to her progress over the last year or so, and seen the phenomenal commitment and application that she has put in – not least how she's balanced it with her day job – so I'm very happy for her that all that hard work has delivered."
