Timothy Breier, a longtime Baker McKenzie disputes partner based in Bangkok, has left to launch his own consulting firm.

U.S.-qualified Breier practised at Baker McKenzie for 19 years, focusing on compliance and anti-corruption investigations, international arbitration, construction matters, restructuring, contractual disputes and risk management.

Breier said he will continue to specialise in international arbitration, mediation, cross-border matters, compliance and contractual disputes, particularly in the fields of construction and major projects.*

He moved to Bangkok from St. Louis in 1998, to teach law at Ramkhamhaeng University. Breier then joined Baker McKenzie in 2000 and made partner in 2013.

"As cross-border trade and investments increase, so does the demand for dispute resolution service. We welcome new entrants as the market continues to grow," said a Hong Kong-based Baker McKenzie spokesman when asked about Breier's departure. "Clients will naturally gravitate towards different firms for different reasons, and we look forward to continue bringing to the table our unique offering of global perspectives with local insights."

Baker McKenzie maintains a large presence in Thailand with 250-plus lawyers, including more than 50 partners. That makes it one of the largest firms in Bangkok and one of the few global firms with a significant presence in the southeast Asian country. Hunton Andrews Kurth, DLA Piper, Allen & Overy, Watson Farley & Williams and Linklaters are some of the global firms in Thailand. Clifford Chance closed its 22-year-old Bangkok office last year.

Elsewhere in the region, Baker McKenzie is planning to significantly reduce the size of its office in Myanmar and advise related matters from other offices in southeast Asia.
