Clifford Chance has bolstered its New York office with the hire of Michelle McGreal from Davis Polk & Wardwell.

Financial restructuring lawyer McGreal joined Davis Polk in 2009 and was promoted to counsel in 2015. She joins Clifford Chance as a partner.

Her practice focuses on complex corporate bankruptcy cases and restructurings. Her key cases include advising American coal mining and processing company Arch Coal and its affiliates on their Chapter 11 cases in 2016, and mineral processing technology company Magnetation on filing for bankruptcy in 2015.

Clifford Chance Americas regional managing partner Evan Cohen said in a statement: "Michelle's arrival continues a wave of growth for our U.S. firm. Since 2016, we have added 18 partners and three counsel in strategic areas.

"Michelle positions our financial restructuring practice for continued strong performance as we anticipate market demand worldwide."

Prior to joining Davis Polk, McGreal was a judicial clerk for Chief Judge Stuart M. Bernstein at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

In January, CC hired former JP Morgan Chase and UBS banker Steven Mastrovich in its New York office to provide strategic business advice to clients, in the same week that CC finance partner Steven Kolyer left its New York base for Sidley Austin.
