Baker McKenzie, White & Case and DLA Piper are among the firms competing to be named the International Law Firm of the Year at the African Legal Awards.

Miranda & Associados, PLMJ and Dentons complete the line-up for the prestigious category, which will be awarded at The Wanderers Club in Johannesburg on September 6.

The shortlist for the regional awards, which are now in their seventh year, have now been unveiled.

There are 29 categories in this year's awards, which contain a mixture of in-house, private practice and international awards across the region. Law firm team awards cover a range of practice areas including property and construction, energy and employment.

Regional stalwarts including Aluko & Oyebode, Anjarwalla & Khanna, Bowmans and Webber Wentzel have all been shortlisted.

There will also be awards for innovation, corporate social responsibility and diversity, and alternative service providers.

Last year's International Law Firm of The Year was Baker McKenzie, while other winners included Bowmans, which picked up four trophies and ENSafrica, which picked up two gongs.
