Castagno, who will be part of the firm's white-collar defence team, advises Italian financial institutions and corporations, as well as international banks and companies, on criminal enforcement proceedings related to anti-money-laundering, corruption and bribery, as well as financial, tax, intellectual property and data protection, privacy and cybercrimes.

"We're excited to add white-collar capability to our team and to do so with a partner with Jean-Paule's reputation and experience," Alessandro De Nicola, senior partner of Orrick's Italian offices and a member of the firm's board, said in a statement.

Castagno said Orrick, which has a roster of clients in Italy that includes virtually every Italian financial institution and many of the country's leading global companies, is an ideal platform for her practice.

"Orrick offers a wide range of legal advice from investigation to trial and appeal. In particular, the strength of its U.S. and European white-collar criminal defence team presents a great opportunity to develop its Italian practice," she told Law.com.

"Investigations today have increasingly become transnational, involving different authorities from different countries," she added. "Offering clients a coordinated cross-border approach is critical.
