The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has launched a tender process for its legal panel to provide prosecution services and legal support.

An agency of the Department for Transport (DFT), the DVSA is responsible for enforcing various functions relating to road safety. Duties include carrying out tests to ensure buses and lorries are safe to drive, carrying out roadside checks on drivers and vehicles, carrying out driving tests, approving driving instructors and MOT testers, and monitoring vehicle recalls. It also detects offences that can result in prosecution in court.

The DVSA covers Great Britain only, with its offices headquartered in Bristol.

The legal panel will run for four years and is worth £4 million. The contract is not divided into lots and there is no indication yet of how many spots on the panel are being offered.

Those that win a place on the roster are expected to prosecute cases on the DVSA's behalf and offer legal support for its special investigations.

The deadline for submission is September 17, 2019.

HS1 railway also opened the tender process for its legal panel last week.

Severn Trent, King's College London and Lloyds Bank have all also kick-started the review of their legal advisers in the past couple of months.
