Linklaters' alliance firm in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone, Zhao Sheng Law Firm, has hired two partners from leading Chinese firm Fangda Partners.

Colette Pan focuses on mergers and acquisitions in the financial sector. She leaves Fangda after about a year with the firm, joining in May 2018 as a partner. Previously, she practised at Linklaters for 12 years, most recently as a managing associate.

Vivian Cao, who specialises in antitrust, joins Zhao Sheng's Beijing office, which was opened in May. She leaves Fangda after two years as a partner with the firm. Before that, Cao was an associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Both Cao and Pan are qualified in China and in the U.S.

Linklaters has had a joint operation with Zhao Sheng since April 2018, allowing the Magic Circle firm to include Chinese law capability in a one-stop-shop offering. The Shanghai-based firm is staffed by former lawyers of Linklaters' China offices, including former senior consultant Eric Liu, who serves as managing partner of Zhao Sheng. Liu splits his time between the Shanghai and Beijing offices.
