Ali Ramadan, Goodwin Procter

Goodwin Procter has further bolstered its London technology and life sciences group with a hire from U.S. rival Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe, just two months after it picked up a team from Taylor Wessing.

The U.S. firm has hired partner Ali Ramadan as it continues to bulk up its technology offering. Ramadan focuses on venture capital, cross-border M&A and private equity transactions for technology businesses.

Ramadan joined Orrick at the start of 2018 from Bird & Bird, where he had been for more than seven years and made partner in 2016.

Goodwin technology co-chair Anthony McCusker said in a statement: "London remains the largest destination for capital invested in Europe. As emerging growth companies become increasingly international, we continue to expand our market-leading technology practice globally."

In June, Goodwin hired a four-strong team from Taylor Wessing including the firm's international corporate co-head David Mardle and three other partners – Malcolm Bates, Tim Worden and Adrian Rainey. Later that month, it also picked up the Taylor Wessing head of tax, Rob Young.

Goodwin has continued growing its European offering in recent months.

Earlier this year, it launched a French real estate practice with the hire of Paris-based lawyer Sarah Fleury, who joined Goodwin as a partner in its real estate industry practice from Orrick. It also hired White & Case restructuring partner Céline Domenget Morin to head up its financial restructuring practice in Paris.
