Australian firm Mills Oakley has added a banking and finance partner in Sydney from Ashurst.

Tim Macmillan was most recently finance counsel at Ashurst. He advises on the financing aspect of corporate transactions and projects, especially renewable energy projects. Last year, he assisted on the financing negotiations of one of the largest solar farms in Australia.

He joined legacy Blake Dawson in 2010 as special counsel and stayed through the merger with Ashurst. Earlier in his career, he practised with Herbert Smith Freehills' predecessor firm, Allens, and Allen & Overy.

"We are acting decisively on a board mandate to grow our banking and finance capability and to hire or develop the expertise which our clients require," Mills Oakley's Melbourne-based CEO John Nerurker said in a statement. "Tim is an excellent addition to the team, possessing the necessary energy and ambition to take the practice to the next level."

In May, Mills Oakley also lured away longtime Clayton Utz banking partner Graeme Gurney in Sydney.
