Slaughter and May is advising the U.K. government's Business Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee as it prepares for a possible 'no-deal' Brexit.

Magic Circle firm Slaughters is advising the committee on issues raised by Ireland's wholesale electricity market, the Single Electricity Market (SEM).

According to a contract filing unveiled today (August 13), advice will cover "highly complex financial and commercial issues raised by SEM contingency planning for a no-deal scenario".

The contract is worth £750,000 and runs from November 2018 to March 2020.

This new contract is among several recent government wins for Slaughters.

Earlier this year, it won an £800,000 contract tender to advise the Department for Transport (DfT) over potential Brexit-related legal action.

Slaughters has a longstanding relationship with the U.K. government, with recent energy and infrastructure mandates including advising on the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant project.

The firm also bagged a £350,000 contract to advise the government on its online platform for securely accessing all its digital services.

Last October, the firm was also awarded a £131,000 contract for legal advice on an investment into electric vehicle charging based in Liverpool.

During the past few months, the government has awarded contracts for legal advice to a range of City firms, including a £250,000 DfT contract to Fieldfisher for provision of legal advice for the Great Western New Trains and Change Project.
