Independent Australian law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth has hired a lawyer from an advisory firm associated with Herbert Smith Freehills as a tax partner.

Cameron Rider joins Corrs' Melbourne office from Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills, where he was a special counsel.

"Cameron's ability to deliver value on complex transactions and disputes is first class. With more than 30 years' experience advising companies on challenging tax issues, Cameron brings unmatched expertise and we are delighted to welcome him to the Corrs partnership," said Corrs CEO Gavin MacLaren in a statement.

He has particular experience advising on corporate tax matters, inbound and outbound investment, tax issues facing the resources and finance sectors, and tax litigation.

"Cameron is one of the most respected tax professionals in Australia and his depth of experience will add further strength to our focus on complex transactional and advisory mandates and tax controversy matters, including litigation," said Rhys Jewell, head of tax at Corrs.

Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills describes itself as Australia's largest specialist tax advisory firm and has offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
