Ropes & Gray global co-head of private investment funds Matthew Judd has left the firm's London office.

Judd had been a partner at Ropes since 2012, prior to which he had been the head of White & Case's investment funds practice. He was hired to Ropes to kick-start its London funds practice alongside White & Case colleague Anand Damodaran, who later joined Kirkland & Ellis.

Judd trained at Linklaters, staying at the Magic Circle firm for more than eight years before joining Clifford Chance in 2000, where he made partner three years later.

In 2008, he led a White & Case team advising private equity firm Nordic Capital on its €4.3bn (£3.6bn) fundraising. Other clients include private equity firm Partners Group, venture capital company Index Ventures, and investment firm Proventus.

A spokesperson for Ropes & Gray said: "We can confirm that Matthew has retired from Ropes & Gray. We thank him for his contribution and wish him well for the future."

Recent hires for Ropes & Gray in London include O'Melveny & Myers funds partner Eve Ellis earlier this year, as well as Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld financial services contentious regulatory partner Rosemarie Paul and Clifford Chance white-collar partner Judith Seddon last year.

Judd did not respond to requests for comment.
