The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed former Football Association (FA) executive Jonathan Hall as its general counsel and company secretary.

Hall will take over the role in September from outgoing Iain Higgins, who is leaving the ICC to become the first CEO of USA Cricket in September.

Higgins worked at Dubai-headquartered ICC for more than 10 years, acting as the firm's GC from 2012 and, additionally, chief operating officer from 2015.

Hall most recently worked for his own sports consultancy firm, Jonathan Hall Associates, according to his LinkedIn profile, which worked with a number of international and U.K. sports organisations including UEFA and Laureus.

Prior to that, he worked for the FA for 11 years, firstly as the director of governance and later as the director of the football services division where he acted as the FA's representative on IFAB, football's international lawmaking body.

Hall also worked as the GC and company secretary at the Rugby Football Union and the senior international vice-president of legal affairs for the International Management Group.

In 2016, World Rugby appointed another former FA director, Alistair Maclean, as its general counsel.

Other recent GC appointments have included Aon's Darren Zeidel, Skyscanner's Rob Miller and Kraft Heinz' Thomas Loest.
