The Maples Group (previously Maples and Calder) has hired shipping partner Jonathan Silver and associate Rachel Wong in Hong Kong from Norton Rose Fulbright.

Silver, who will lead the offshore firm's Asia shipping team, previously led Norton Rose Fulbright's North Asia shipping group and co-led its Republic of Marshall Islands law practice. He and Wong are joined by legal manager Maggie Wang and assistant vice president Edwin Lo, who were both paralegals at Norton Rose Fulbright.

Silver specialises in shipping finance, including loans, leasing and private equity. In 2015, Silver advised Chinese lessor Minsheng Financial Leasing Co. Ltd. on the financing and leasing of three container vessels; he was supported by Wong, Wang and Lo.

Silver leaves Norton Rose Fulbright after 13 years with the firm from two stints. He joined the firm as a trainee in 2004 and left in 2012 as counsel to join Hong Kong firm Howse Williams Bowers as a partner. He rejoined Norton Rose Fulbright a year later as a partner.

Maples has more than 40 lawyers in Hong Kong, including about 20 partners. Elsewhere in Asia, the offshore firm has offices in Shanghai and Singapore.
