Morrison & Foerster

Morrison & Foerster has hired project finance partner Jon Ornolfsson in Singapore from Ashurst.

Ornolfsson, who will also spend time in Tokyo, focuses on acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures and project financing in the oil and gas, power and chemicals sectors. In November last year, he was part of a cross-border team that advised Austria-based oil and gas company OMV AG on a $1.6 billion Malaysian joint venture with Sapura Energy Bhd.

Ornolfsson leaves Ashurst after two stints and more than four years with the firm. He first practised at Ashurst's London office as an associate from 2005 to 2007, and rejoined the firm in 2016 as a Singapore partner. In between the two stints, he was a senior associate at Herbert Smith Freehills for nine years in Singapore, Tokyo and Dubai.

The appointment of Ornolfsson follows that of Tessa Davis, a long-time Linklaters project finance partner, who also joined the Singapore office in May. Morrison & Foerster has about 20 lawyers in Singapore, including nine partners. Transactions lawyer Shirin Tang was appointed Singapore managing partner in June, taking over from Asia managing partner Eric Piesner, who splits his time between the city-state and Tokyo, and Beijing-based Paul McKenzie. The pair previously co-led the Singapore office.
