Nixon Peabody has hired Alvin So as a corporate partner in Hong Kong.

So specialises in initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory compliance, corporate finance and direct investment transactions.

So joins from his own practice, So Lawyers, which he started in 2016 after a one-year stint as a partner at Loeb & Loeb's Hong Kong associate firm Pang & Co. Previously, he was a partner at legacy Cheng Wong Lam & Partners.

"We have known and worked with Alvin for many years," Matthew Lam, managing partner of Nixon Peabody's Hong Kong office, said in a statement. "I have always greatly admired his intelligence, professional knowledge and problem-solving ability."

Nixon Peabody entered Hong Kong in 2010 via an association with legacy Cheng Wong Lam & Partners, which rebranded to CWL Partners in 2012. The two firms combined in 2015 and now the combined firm is branded Nixon Peabody CWL.

The firm has about 30 lawyers, including 16 partners. In June of last year, Nixon Peabody CWL recruited John Maguire as a corporate finance partner from Yunfeng Financial Group, a local brokerage backed by Alibaba chairman Jack Ma, where he was head of corporate finance.
