Big Four accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers' local law practice in Singapore has added a capital markets director.

Colin Ong joins Eng and Co. from leading Singaporean firm WongPartnership, where he was a partner. Eng and Co. was launched in October last year by Rachel Eng, the former deputy chair of WongPartnership.

Ong focuses on initial public offerings, secondary and follow-on equity offerings, issuance of debt and perpetual securities, acquisitions and related regulatory matters. In 2015, he advised DBS Bank as the underwriter on a $290 million listing in Singapore of BHG Retail REIT, a China-focused real estate investment trust.

Ong leaves WongPartnership after two stints totalling 16 years with the firm. He first joined WongPartnership as an associate in 2001 and left in 2005 to join Latham & Watkins as an associate. He rejoined WongPartnership two years later.

In addition to Ong and Eng, capital markets lawyer Lynn Ariele Soh is the only other director at Eng and Co.; Soh, also a former WongPartnership senior associate, joined the firm when it was launched in October from an in-house role as vice-president of legal at Singapore-based medical service provider Fullerton Healthcare Corp.

Eng and Co. was previously branded as Teng and Co., a Singapore law practice launched by former Bird & Bird corporate partner Joanna Teng in June 2018. Teng, who was with Eng and Co. until at least October last year, is no longer listed on the firm's website. PwC did not respond to a request for comment regarding Teng.

Before Teng and Co., PwC had an association with local corporate boutique Camford Law Corp., where Teng joined as a director in 2015.

The accounting firm also has had a foreign law practice in Singapore since 2016, launched by former Ashurst Singapore head Keith McGuire and former Norton Rose Fulbright partner Natalie Breen. Last September, Breen relocated to London and is now the global real estate legal leader. Former Ashurst partner Carl Dunton and former Taylor Vinters Asia head Henry Goodwin are the other partners at PwC's foreign law practice.

PwC's Big Four rivals EY and Deloitte also recently hired directors for their Singapore law practices. EY's Atlas Asia Law Corp. recruited former Dentons Rodyk & Davidson senior partner Chan Wan Hong and senior associate Desiree Lee last month, while Deloitte's Sabara Law hired David Teo in December from local firm Donaldson & Burkinshaw, where he was a partner.
