Dentons has appointed Wendela Raas, who is currently the firm's Netherlands managing partner and a member of the Europe board, to its global board.

She is based in the firm's Amsterdam office.

"The global board plays a critical role in driving our strategy to always be the law firm of the future and Wendela will be an invaluable addition to the group,'' Joe Andrew, global chair of Dentons, said in a statement.

Elliott Portnoy, global CEO of Dentons, credited Raas for the strength and growth of its Netherlands office, saying it is a testament to her leadership.

Raas had led Dentons' real estate practice in Amsterdam for five years. She was previously managing partner of Dutch law firm Boekel and played a major role in the firm's decision to merge with Dentons in 2017. Under her leadership, revenue at Dentons' Amsterdam office increased by 55% in the first year and is expected to show double-digit growth in 2019, the firm said.

Since the merger, in less than two years, Dentons has also doubled the number of partners in Amsterdam.

"I am honoured to be elected and grateful for the trust of my fellow partners," Raas said in a statement. "I am truly committed to Dentons' vision of being the law firm of the future and I look forward to contributing to our global strategy as a member of the global board."

Dentons has been steadily expanding its presence in continental Europe in recent years. It recently added lawyers to its Amsterdam office and has also increased headcount in Düsseldorf, Germany, Rome and Milan.
