Deacons, the largest domestic firm in Hong Kong, has hired intellectual property partner Benjamin Choi from Mayer Brown.

Choi focuses on trademark prosecution, including portfolio management, pre-filing advice and handling official actions. He also conducts IP due diligence for merger and acquisition projects.

Choi leaves Mayer Brown after more than 11 years with the firm. He joined in 2008, just after the U.S. firm merged with leading Hong Kong firm Johnson Stokes & Master, and made partner in 2011. Previously, he was an associate at Baker McKenzie and IP boutique Eccles & Lee, and trained and practised at local firm Wilkinson & Grist.

Mayer Brown remains one of the largest firms in Hong Kong, with about 200 lawyers. In September of last year, the U.S. firm's Hong Kong office dropped the iconic 'JSM' part of its firm name in English, to reflect that it is a global legal services provider.
