The shortlist for Legal Week's inaugural Commercial Litigation & Arbitration Awards has now been unveiled, with Herbert Smith Freehills leading the pack with four nominations.

Other firms hoping to triumph at the awards ceremony – which will take place at the Waldorf Hilton in London on November 5 – include BCLP and Stephenson Harwood, both of whom are in the running for three awards apiece.

Other firms to have received multiple nominations include Clyde & Co, Travers Smith and Kirkland & Ellis.

In total, eight firms – including Macfarlanes, Travers Smith and Dechert – are competing for the night's most hotly contested prize of Corporate/Commercial Litigation Team of the Year.

HSF has been nominated in the categories of International Arbitration Team of the Year, IP Litigation Team of the Year, and Insurance/Reinsurance Litigation Team of the Year, while London partner Harry Edwards has been tipped for the Rising Star award.

Another four firms, including U.S. firms Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, are competing for International Arbitration Team of the Year.

There are 16 categories in this year's awards, including prizes for the Advocate and Litigator of the Year, and sector-specific litigation awards including for banking, competition, real estate, IP and white-collar crime.
