Former Linklaters managing partner candidate and western Europe regional managing partner Pieter Riemer has retired from the firm.

He was one of six Linklaters partners shortlisted for the role of firmwide managing partner in 2015, before losing out to Gideon Moore.

Riemer also acted as western Europe head between 2012 and 2016, before returning to fee earning as a corporate partner based in the Magic Circle firm's Amsterdam office.

Riemer joined Linklaters in 2005 as the firm's first corporate partner in its Amsterdam base, which had opened the previous year.

Riemer has been involved in a number of high-profile deals during his time at the firm, including advising household retailer Steinhoff's €18.6bn listing on the Frankfurt stock exchange, and acting for ING in the sale of its car leasing and fleet management business to BMW for €700m.

He also had stints as a member of the firm's executive committee and partnership board. More recently, he sat on Linklaters' corporate responsibility and fintech committees.

A spokesperson for Linklaters commented: "We thank Pieter for his excellent commitment and contribution to the firm and wish him all the best for his future endeavours."
