Paul Hastings has recruited Charles Cardon as a partner in its Paris office. Corporate lawyer Cardon was previously a partner at Dechert, also in Paris.

Cardon spent about three and a half years as a partner at Dechert. Before that, he worked as an associate and subsequently counsel at Weil, Gotshal & Manges in Paris, and as an associate at Willkie Farr & Gallagher in Paris and New York.

He advises companies and private equity firms on matters including M&A transactions, securities issuances, corporate governance, disclosure requirements, relationships with shareholders, and corporate law compliance, with a particular focus on the energy, oil and insurance sectors.

"We're meeting our clients' demand for deeper European capabilities in M&A, private equity and finance," said Seth Zachary, Paul Hastings' chair. "Charles brings extensive, valuable experience in these areas and is a welcome addition to the Paris office as we continue to grow."

Cardon said he was attracted to Paul Hastings in part because of its strong growth and outstanding track record of big deals in Europe.

"The firm's finance and corporate practices are building tremendous momentum, fuelled by strong lateral partner additions and outstanding client work," he said.

Paul Hastings' addition of Cardon is the firm's second hire from Dechert this year, following its recruitment of tax partner Bruno Leroy in May. The firm was also joined by three senior Hogan Lovells private equity lawyers, including the firm's London private equity lead Ed Harris, in July.
