U.S. firm Weil Gotshal & Manges' top-earning partner in London took home £1.72 million last year, a 41% increase on the highest figure the previous year.

According to the U.S. firm's London LLP accounts, the top-paid partner last year took home £1.22 million in 2017.

Weil also posted a 15% uptick in London revenues to hit £144.8 million during its last financial year, up from £126.1 million in 2017.

It also boosted its operating profit by 23% to reach £70.2 million, as profits available to be distributed among the firm's London LLP members rose by 27% to reach just under £66 million.

Weil has made a series of high-profile corporate hires recently, announcing yesterday (October 8) that Linklaters heavyweight corporate M&A partner David Avery-Gee is joining the firm.

In February, the firm hired Sidley Austin London private equity partner Mark Thompson following a series of departures.

In March, Weil reported that it had posted its highest-ever global revenues and profits in 2018, to hit $1.46 billion in turnover.

In its announcement for the global results, Weil's executive partner and management committee chairman Barry Wolf said London's performance had been driven by private equity, restructuring, and banking and finance, adding that he was "extremely pleased" with the office's growth.
