Kennedys has expanded its insurance practice in Singapore with the hire of partners Patrick Yeo and Hui Ying Lim.

Yeo and Lim, together with associate Joyce Ooi and a paralegal, join from Withers KhattarWong, the name under which U.K.-based Withers operates in Singapore. The three-lawyer team focuses on motor insurance matters, including contentious litigation and alternative dispute resolution.

Before jumping to Kennedys, both Yeo and Lim practised at Withers KhattarWong and its predecessor, the Singaporean firm KhattarWong. Yeo made partner at KhattarWong in 2006 and became a senior equity partner after it formed a formal law alliance and was absorbed by Withers in 2015. Lim was promoted to junior equity partner at Withers KhattarWong in 2016.

In December last year, Kennedys hired another two-lawyer insurance team, led by partner Akramjeet Khaira, from Singaporean firm Kelvin Chia Partnership.

With the additions, Kennedys has 14 partners in Singapore, focusing on insurance and commercial disputes. The U.K.-based firm is allowed to litigate in the courts of Singapore through Legal Solutions, a local litigation boutique with which the firm formed a joint venture – Kennedys Legal Solutions – in 2015.

Meanwhile, Yeo and Lim are the first partner departures since Withers merged with KhattarWong at the beginning of this year. It is also a rare partner departure from Withers in Asia, which has been rapidly expanding across the region and globally in recent years. In September, Withers KhattarWong recruited a three-lawyer funds team, led by partner Daniel Yong, from Morgan Lewis Stamford.
