International law firm Squire Patton Boggs has hired a corporate partner in Sydney to help meet the needs of public company clients.

Ashley Rose is an experienced corporate lawyer specialising in public and private mergers, and acquisitions and equity capital markets, Squire said. He has been involved in a number of high-profile takeovers, takeover defences and schemes of arrangement. He also has deep expertise in initial public offerings, capital raisings and placements on the Australian Securities Exchange.

"Sydney is the business capital of Australia and so additional expertise and capability is essential in order to meet our clients' growing needs, particularly in the public company space," said Campbell Davidson, the firm's Australian managing partner. "This approach echoes our global strategy to invest in key financial centres."

Rose's experience as in-house counsel at JP Morgan, British Telecom and Colgate Palmolive makes him a good fit with the firm, Davidson added.

Rose said he is looking forward to joining the firm. "The collaborative manner in which the firm operates and its global practice breadth were appealing and offer a great experience to my clients, who are increasingly looking beyond Australia to expand their operations," he said.

He has previously worked at Allen & Overy, Herbert Smith Freehills and domestic firm Gilbert + Tobin. He joins from local firm Watson Mangioni, where he was a director.

Watson Mangioni would not immediately be reached for comment.
