Milan

McDermott Will & Emery has bolstered its Milan office with the hire of corporate partner Fabrizio Faina from Jones Day.

Faina has been at Jones Day for more than 18 years, having joined as of counsel in 2000. He made partner at the U.S. firm in 2011.

His practice has an emphasis on acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, private equity deals, and reorganisations.

McDermott Milan head Ettore Scandale said in a statement: "We are committed to further strengthening our Milan office's transactional capabilities, given the city's position as Italy's financial capital. Fabrizio joining the firm is a direct result of that commitment."

U.S. and international firms have had a chequered history in Italy.

Last month, Paul Hastings shuttered its base in Milan following the departure of two partners, including its office head.

Several others have closed bases across the country.

However, other firms have expanded their Milan offerings. Dentons recently launched its Europe-South Korea practice with the hire of Soon-Youn Kim as partner to head up the desk. Linklaters also recently hired Roberto Egori as a partner and head of the firm's tax practice from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Milan.
