Two of the night's winners were unable to attend the ceremony: Rising Star Award Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner's senior associate Sarah McAtominey clinched the Rising Star title, having acted in "interesting and high-profile cases". Her technical expertise includes complex commercial litigation for high-net-worth individuals, corporates and financial institutions. She is currently acting for Samathur Kin-Kan Li (through his investment vehicle) in a dispute with Tyndaris relating to a $5 billion investment Mr Li made in an algorithmic sentiment-driven trading fund, raising complex claims of breach of contract. Judges noted McAtominey received "fantastic client feedback" and is a "clear role model for others". Advocate General of the Year Neil Calver QC from Brick Court Chambers was named Advocate General of the Year in recognition of his wide-ranging domestic and international commercial litigation practice. This includes winning an "almost unwinnable case worth $860 million" against a strong legal team in the SCM Financial Overseas case. Additionally, Calver has been supporting aspiring barristers and solicitors in England, who may not have the necessary knowledge, contacts or funding to pursue the career. The judges said Calver has had a "formidable year" and possesses an "impressive range in major league cases".
