Intellectual property firm Rouse has hired Douglas Clark, the former Shanghai office managing partner of Hogan Lovells, as its global head of dispute resolution.

Clark, who is fluent in Mandarin, will join Rouse in January and split his time between Hong Kong and the firm's recently opened Shenzhen office. At Rouse, Clark will lead the firm's global disputes practice, focusing on cross-border disputes and developing its IP arbitration practice.

Before joining Rouse, Clark was most recently a barrister at Gilt Chambers, specialising in patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition cases in Hong Kong.

Previously, he trained and practised at Hogan Lovells for 18 years, making partner in 2001. He launched Hogan Lovells' Shanghai office in 2003 and served as its office head until 2010. Clark was also global head of Hogan Lovells' patents group from 2008 to 2010.

Elsewhere in China, Rouse has offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Globally, the firm has 18 offices across 13 countries, including in London, where it is based, Stockholm, Moscow, Cape Town, South Africa, Dubai and Myanmar.
