Linklaters is in discussions to lease a new headquarters in Moorgate, with its current lease at One Silk Street set to end in 2026.

The firm has its eyes on 20 Ropemaker Street, a 27-storey development less than 400 metres away from its current headquarters, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

According to the development's website, the new build covers an area of 447,000 square feet developed and owned by CORE, and is situated about 200 metres away from Moorgate station.

The update follows reports by Law.com's Legal Week that the firm had set up a taskforce to consider a future move for the firm.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Linklaters said: "We can confirm that we are assessing our options for our future office accommodation in London, including consideration of how we can use our space as flexibly and efficiently as possible.

"This work will inform our decision as to whether to extend our lease in Silk Street beyond the current term ending in 2026."

Linklaters would not be the first firm to base itself on Ropemaker Street. American firms Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Wilkie Farr & Gallagher are currently based in the CityPoint skyscraper on the same road.

Last week, it was revealed that fellow Magic Circle firm Slaughter and May was also considering a move away from its current London office at 1 Bunhill Row, with its lease also set to end in 2026.
