Dentons has hired a Sydney-based competition and consumer lawyer experienced in securing regulatory approval for mergers. She has been hired as a partner.

Elizabeth Sarofim, who joins the firm from Baker McKenzie where she was a senior associate, advises both domestic and international clients on their rights and obligations under the Australian Competition and Consumer Act.

She is also experienced in securing Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) clearance for merger transactions involving domestic and international clients and ensuring that commercial transactions are structured consistently with competition law requirements. She also advises clients on ACCC investigations and enforcement actions.

"Elizabeth brings a wealth of experience acting for and against the competition regulator and acting for large private companies," said Dentons' Australia chair and Australasia region CEO Doug Stipanicev. "Elizabeth's practical experience combined with her rich academic background in this area will strengthen Dentons' national consumer law and competition team and enhance our client services in this specialist area."

Baker McKenzie declined to comment.

Dentons has expanded its offering in Australia recently, appointing a corporate and commercial transactions partner in Perth, hiring a real estate partner in Melbourne and merging with a firm in Adelaide.
