Dechert

Dechert has become the latest U.S. firm to announce its firmwide partnership promotions, making up 11 lawyers globally including two in London.

The promotion round was smaller than last year's, when 16 partners were promoted including three in London.

London lawyers made up are financial services lawyer Craig Borthwick and corporate and securities lawyer Smridhi Gulati, and will take effect from January 1 next year.

Of the other promoted lawyers, eight are U.S.-based across the firm's New York, Chicago, Orange County and Silicon Valley offices. One partner promotion was made in the Luxembourg office.

Dechert is the latest firm to promote a reduced number of lawyers in London as part of its global round. Ropes & Gray made up just one lawyer in its base in the city, while White & Case made up three London lawyers – the fewest to be promoted in the city for a decade – earlier this year. Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton meanwhile did not make up any London-based lawyers to its partnership in its latest promotion round at all, instead promoting just one London lawyer to a counsel position.

In October, Dechert's U.K. LLP accounts showed revenues in the country had risen by more than 10% to surpass £100 million.
