Clifford Chance is advising easyJet on its target to offset carbon emissions from fuel used on all its domestic and international flights.

CC is working alongside easyJet's group general counsel, Maaike de Bie, and head of commercial legal, Jonathan Levy, to help guide the airline on its ambitious strategy to limit carbon emissions.

CC's team is being led by environment partner Nigel Howorth with support from co-head of corporate Melissa Fogarty.

The team further comprises corporate partner Daud Khan and intellectual property partner Vanessa Marsland.

Howorth said in a statement: "We are delighted to advise easyJet on this groundbreaking initiative. Climate concerns are driving businesses across all sectors to take responsibility for their environmental impacts, and carbon offsetting will be an important mechanism, particularly in the aviation sector, to enhance corporate sustainability during the transition to a low-carbon economy."

Clifford chance has acted for easyJet for several years, including on the airline's acquisition of Air Berlin's operations at Tegel Airport, the firm said.

Last year, corporate partner Khan also acted as interim general counsel for the airline company after former GC Kyla Mullins left for ITV.

Last year, CC itself reported that it had halved its carbon footprint between 2015 and 2018, on the back of a rethink of its real estate requirements.
