A London Proskauer Rose partner is set to become the general counsel of private equity firm Campbell Lutyens.

Private funds partner Kate Simpson is expected to join Campbell Lutyens from Proskauer in around a month, according to a spokesperson for the private equity outfit. In her new role, she will head up its global legal and compliance teams.

Simpson joined Proskauer as a partner in 2011 from the London office of Kirkland & Ellis, where she made partner in 2008.

Her hire comes after Campbell Lutyens's former general counsel, Mateja Maher, joined Sidley Austin's London investment funds team in September. He had held the general counsel role since 2017.

Prior to joining Campbell Lutyens as deputy general counsel in 2015, he had been a partner at Kirkland for four years, having moved there from Simmons & Simmons.

Commenting on Simpson's departure from the firm, a Proskauer spokesperson said in a statement: "Kate has been an integral member of our team helping to build our practice and diversify our offering. As a highly valued friend and partner,  we are sorry to see her go but certainly understand that she is excited by the opportunity at Campbell Lutyens.

"We have a longstanding relationship with Campbell Lutyens, sharing many mutual clients and collaborating on many projects. We therefore look forward to continuing to work with Kate in her new role."

Last year, Proskauer bolstered its London funds team with two hires from rival firms, including Reed Smith partner Leith Moghli and Stephenson Harwood corporate finance partner Warren Allan.

Other recent private practice to in-house moves include Norton Rose Fulbright lawyer Keith Law, who took up a role as general counsel at private equity real estate firm Deutsche Finance International in September, and former Latham & Watkins Beijing managing partner Du Yilong, who joined private equity giant Warburg Pincus as a senior in-house lawyer in the same month.
