The U.K. Natural History Museum has appointed former Fieldfisher lawyer Will Parsloe as its inaugural head of legal.

The iconic museum kicked off its search for its first ever legal head last summer.

Parsloe starts in the position this month, following his previous role at charity The Challenge, which runs youth and community programmes.

He was head of legal at The Challenge for three years and had previously acted as head of legal at the English National Opera and the NSPCC.

Parsloe was a lawyer at Fieldfisher between 2004 and 2011, according to his LinkedIn profile, where he advised on commercial intellectual property, information technology and new media.

The museum is one of London's most iconic landmarks and welcomes more than five million visitors a year.

The legal head role has been created as the museum undertakes a new strategy, a statement about Parsloe's appointment said.

Parsloe will report to the museum's executive director of finance and corporate services Neil Greenwood, and deliver legal services for directors, trustees and senior managers.

Greenwood said in a statement: "With a degree in archaeology, [Parsloe] is excited about combining his principle interests of law, prehistory and nature at the Natural History Museum."
