Cooley has officially launched an office in Singapore with two partners.

Corporate partner Ferish Patel, who joined from Gunderson Dettmer Stough Villeneuve Franklin & Hachigian in July 2019, is partner in charge of the new office. Matthew Bartus, co-chair of Cooley's global emerging companies and venture capital practice, is relocating to Singapore from Silicon Valley.

Both Patel and Bartus advise high-growth technology and life sciences companies at all stages of their life cycle, from formation through financings, corporate governance, IPOs, M&As and exits. Patel specialises in deals in Southeast Asia and India; and Bartus is of the founders of the  firm's free legal and business tips site Cooley GO for entrepreneurs and investors.

Patel said the addition of Singapore will help bring Cooley's collaborative culture to clients in South and Southeast Asia. "This launch reflects Cooley's commitment to match the needs of founders and investors with a full-service firm that is purpose-built for technology and life sciences companies."

Cooley's chief executive officer Joe Conroy said the Singapore office is a milestone in the firm's global growth strategy. "Our arrival is an extension of our decades of proven success in Asia. We are eager to deliver on-the-ground capabilities."

Singapore is Cooley's fourth office in Asia after Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong. The firm opened its Hong Kong office in 2019 with former Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom partner Will Cai. In November, Cai led a team advising Chinese property technology company Fangdd Network Group Ltd. on a $78 Million listing on Nasdaq; the team also included San Diego partner Charlie Kim and Beijing partner Henry Yin.

Globally, Cooley now has 16 offices.
