Norton Rose Fulbright has hired a partner from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) to lead its planning practice, according to a person with knowledge of the move.

Sarah Fitzpatrick is set to become the firm's new planning practice head, stepping into a role left vacant by former head of planning Duncan Field, who last year left Norton Rose for planning boutique law firm Town Legal. Fitzpatrick joins from BCLP where she spent 18 years, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She was promoted to partner in 2016, with a practice focused on planning, regeneration, and compulsory purchase schemes, acting for clients including real estate developer Sellar on its developments of The Shard and the News Building.

The firm has also has equaled its 2019 London promotions round by making up eight lawyers to its partnership in the city this year.

This year, the London lawyers making the cut are banking and finance lawyers Daniel Cowdy, Alexandra Dunn, Daniel Giemajner, Richard Green, and Matthew Thorn; litigation lawyer Charlie Weston-Simons; pensions lawyer Shane O'Reilly; and corporate lawyer Christopher McCarthy.

Worldwide, the firm made up a total of 47 lawyers—an improvement of one on last year—eight of whom were based in London.

A spokesperson for BCLP said in a statement: "While a number of partners have recently left the London office, quite a few of them were retiring from legal practice altogether. It is always sad when partners leave our firm, but we also recognise that this is part and parcel  of the normal course of business in a firm of our size and we wish them well."
