Former Weil Gotshal & Manges banking head Mark Donald has started working with a legal recruitment agency, according to several people with knowledge of the matter.

Five people said Donald had become a recruiter with one saying he has a role with legal recruitment agency Maclean Legal Search.

He is not listed as a team member on Maclean's website and the company declined to comment, while Donald did not respond to requests for comment.

Donald spent four years as head of Weil Gotshal's banking practice, where he joined in 2012 from Hogan Lovells. Major work he had been involved in during his time at Weil included advising on the multibillion-dollar financing of Hellman & Friedman's acquisition of Bain Capital's holding in Securitas Direct in 2015, while the previous year he advised the banks on Hony Capital's $1.54bn acquisition of Pizza Express.

In November 2018, Donald was reportedly set to join White & Case from Weil Gotshal, but the hire was delayed due to concerns around alleged "client conflict issues".

One person close to the matter said the issues related to banking heavyweight J.P. Morgan. J.P. Morgan declined to comment.

Donald's move to White & Case eventually fell through last February.
