Dentons has added two partners to its Madrid office, launching a Spanish capital markets practice with one of the hires.

Baker McKenzie partner Ignacio Corujo will launch the firms's capital markets practice in Spain. He had worked at Baker McKenzie for four and a half years.

Risteard de Paor is joining Denton's international arbitration practice from White & Case. Before that he worked at Hogan Lovells and in the legal service of the French ministry of ecology, sustainable development and energy.

Corujo told Law.com there were growth opportunities in the Spanish market because the country was growing at a healthy rate after coming out of the crisis of 2008-09. He said that the formation of a new government in Spain and the deal between the UK and the EU on the terms of the UK's departure from the EU at the end of January would help growth prospects.

Corujo said that he expected to double the number of lawyers in Dentons' Madrid base from in two years.

Jesús Varela, Spain managing partner at Dentons, said in a statement, "The recruitment of these two respected lawyers is part of Dentons' strategic growth plan in Spain, which will continue very actively throughout 2020."

Dentons has been steadily expanding its presence in continental Europe in recent years. It recently added lawyers to its Amsterdam office and has also increased head count in Düsseldorf, Germany, Rome and Milan.
