Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner has added a team of six lawyers, including one partner, to its Paris office, one month after the firm boosted the size of its Paris office with the hire of a team of 21 lawyers, including seven partners.
Like last month's additions, the six new hires joined from the French firm Franklin. The rapid expansion in Paris that began in January brings the total number of new hires this year to 27.
Partner Christian Sauer and of counsel Kai Völpel and their team arrived Wednesday, Bryan Cave said in a statement, ramping up the global firm's presence and expansion plans in M&A and private equity.
"We are delighted to welcome Christian, Kai and their team," Rémy Blain, Bryan Cave's managing partner in Paris, said in a statement. "This arrival supports the growth of our corporate/M&A team in order to become one of the key players in the market."
The corporate M&A team at Bryan Cave's Paris office now has 13 lawyers, including three partners.
With the move to Bryan Cave, Sauer and Völpel's team joins former Franklin colleagues from real estate, taxation, financing, and public law. The addition of the 21 lawyers on Jan. 3 was the largest since the merger between legacy firms Bryan Cave and Berwin Leighton Paisner in 2018.
"[Bryan Cave's] continued growth in Paris reflects the region's great market potential, in which our team can be fully involved," Sauer and Völpel said in a statement.
Sauer started his career at Linklaters in 1999 and practiced at Franklin for 15 years, rising to partner. Völpel, also a Franklin partner, started at the French firm Weil & Sordel and practiced at Franklin for 23 years.
The team is comprised of counsel Virginie Brault-Scaillet and associates Paul Ast, Justine Langer, and Dora Pucci.
In addition to Paris, Bryan Cave's European offices are located in Brussels, the U.K., and Germany. Last year, Addleshaw Goddard poached a 10-lawyer team, including two partners, from Bryan Cave's office in Hamburg to launch its first office in continental Europe.
