Barely a week goes by without a piece on mental health in the financial and legal press. Employers have taken steps they would never have considered a decade ago but they're under pressure to do more. The current generation of partners and MDs might be entitled to ask 'what's changed?'.

These have always been tough jobs; they pay so well because not many people are able and willing to do them. Juniors have always felt hard done by – actually, so do the seniors very often, they just don't have anyone to complain to. After a life time of sucking it up, it's a bit rich to have to pay up because people have started saying it's too much.
