Fresh protests are to be held outside Addleshaw Goddard's London offices after a cleaner was dismissed "due to third party pressure" by the law firm, protest organisers have said.
In a leaflet promoting the demonstration—scheduled for February 14 outside Addleshaws' Moorgate premises—the Cleaners and Allied Independent Workers Union (CAIWU) claims that night shift cleaner Efrain Posso was dismissed after Addleshaw Goddard said it "did not want him back on site".
Posso told Law.com International's UK arm Legal Week, that cleaning company Incentive FM suspended in December and later dismissed him because Addleshaws complained the night shift team he was supervising did not deliver to standard, and because he was caught sleeping during a shift – a claim that he denies.
However, the CAIWU has suggested that the dismissal was a consequence of the fact that Posso was an activist and trade union representative, adding: "It's probably just a coincidence that [Posso] is a trade union rep and activist who isn't afraid to tell his managers when he thinks they've made a mistake."
Posso was the night shift team's representative in campaigns targeting improved wages and working conditions at the firm, and is the only member of the night shift team working in Addleshaws' office who was dismissed by Incentive, according to Posso.
Last summer, Posso and members of his team held a demonstration alongside the CAIWU at Addleshaws' London headquarters, protesting against "unequal working conditions". They staged a second protest in December.
Addleshaws declined to comment. Incentive FM did not respond to requests for comment.
