Herbert Smith Freehills and Linklaters' Australian ally Allens acted on Vodafone Hutchison Australia in its A$15 billion ($10 billion) merger with local phone and internet company TPG, which was approved by the courts on Wednesday.

In approving the deal, the Federal Court overruled the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's earlier decision to block to merger on the basis it would substantially lessen competition in the mobile market.

Fiona Crosbie, Allens chairman and lead partner for Vodafone (VHA) on the matter, said the decision was keenly awaited.

"We were so pleased to assist longstanding client VHA to secure the court's blessing for what will be a transformative merger for the company and for the Australian telecommunications sector. We enjoyed working seamlessly with the VHA team to secure this expedited decision," she said in a statement.

The Allens team also included competition, consumer and regulatory partner Robert Walker and disputes & investigations partner Chris Prestwich.

The HSF team included competition partner Liza Carver, litigation partner Bruce Ramsay and corporate partner Rebecca Maslan-Stannage.
