U.S. litigation firm Hausfeld has opened its first base in Amsterdam with the hire of a team of lawyers from a local firm, including three partners.

The office will launch on March 1, 2020 with the hire of the entire team of lawyers from local Dutch litigation boutique Zippro Meijer.

Zippro Meijer partner Rogier Meijer said: "Our Zippro Meijer team is thrilled to join Hausfeld, the undisputed global leader in claimant-side litigation, and further establish their Dutch practice.

The office is Hausfeld's 7th office in Europe and 12th office globally. Other European locations for the firm include Paris, London and Brussels.

Chairman Michael Hausfeld said: "Having worked closely with the Zippro Meijer team for several years now across a range of cases, we are delighted that they will join us. Our Amsterdam office will provide a full offering of litigation services by lawyers with extensive experience in complex competition, commercial, consumer and financial services disputes, as well as the Hausfeld ethos of offering innovative solutions to dispute resolution."

Meanwhile Greenberg Traurig has expanded its Amsterdam base with the hire of three senior female lawyers. The firm has added shareholder Sabine Schoute, local partner Lilian Welling-Steffens and of counsel Linda Thonen from Rotterdam-headquartered Loyens & Loeff. The trio join Greenberg's global banking and financial services practice.

Other recent entrants to the Amsterdam legal market include U.S. firm Scott+Scott last year, while Jones Day recently bolstered its office with a new partner to its investigations and white-collar defence practice in the city.
