Baker McKenzie has hired banking and finance partner Charlie Detmold from King & Wood Mallesons.

Detmold worked for nine years at King & Wood Mallesons, where he was special counsel. Previously, he was with the Magic Circle firm Allen & Overy.

Detmold has acted for a variety of clients, including banks and other financiers, borrowers and sponsors. "He will be an integral part of our finance and projects offering based in our Melbourne office," Duncan McGrath, Baker McKenzie's head of banking and finance, said in a statement.

National managing partner Anthony Foley said Detmold joins at a time of increasing client demand for banking and finance services and has valuable experience in project finance, PPPs, acquisition finance and corporate finance.

Firms in Australia are anticipating strong demand for projects and finance capability in 2020 as governments spend a record amount on transport infrastructure.

King & Wood Mallesons' financial services sector leader, Evie Bruce, said Detmold was a valued member of the firm's banking and finance team for a very long period. "We wish him all the best for the future," Bruce said.
