Baker McKenzie has recruited a project finance partner in Seoul, South Korea.

Jae-Hyon Ahn joins from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he was of counsel, based in Tokyo. Ahn focuses his practice on energy and infrastructure projects, having represented financial institutions and multinationals on complex cross-border financing transactions. Earlier this year, he was part of the Orrick team that advised renewable energy companies Green Power Investment and Invenergy Wind GK on joint ventures with Tohoku Electric Power Co. Ltd. to develop wind power projects.

Ahn joined Orrick in New York in 2006 and left to spend a year and a half with Allen & Overy between 2012 and 2013. He returned to Orrick in 2013 as of counsel in the firm's Tokyo office. Orrick does not have an office in Seoul.

Won Lee, Baker McKenzie's Seoul-based head of Korea practice, said Ahn's experience in complex project financing complements the firm's existing team's transactional capabilities. "[He] will enable us to provide a more robust level of services to Korean companies as they invest or expand into new markets," Lee said in a statement.

In addition to Lee, corporate partner Winton Kim is also based in Baker McKenzie's Seoul office. The firm said outbound transactions from Korea is a key focus. The firm has lawyers focusing on the Korea practice in its 77 offices, covering transactions, disputes and compliance offerings.
