High profile litigator Rebekah Giles has left global law firm Kennedys to establish her own reputational risk and disputes practice.

Giles said in a statement that while at Kennedys, she "led the country's most highly regarded reputational risk practices, acting for former prime ministers, celebrities, business leaders, athletes and sporting organizations."

She also represented Australian Sen. Sarah Hanson Young in a well-publicized "slut-shaming" case in Australia's federal court last year.

In that case, Hanson Young was awarded A$120,000 (US$80,000) in damages from former Sen. David Leyonhjelm after a judge ruled the former senator defamed her in a series of interviews last year by saying she was a misandrist and a hypocrite.

Giles cites her specialist practice with offices in Sydney and Melbourne as being "the primary driver for leaving a large law firm format."

Kennedys could not immediately be reached for comment.
