Jones Day has hired a disputes partner in Hong Kong.

Samuel Ngo arrives from K&L Gates, where he was a partner advising on litigation and international arbitration. Ngo, who is qualified in Hong Kong, advises government and corporate clients on commercial, insurance and construction disputes in China and Hong Kong.

He joined K&L Gates in 2013 from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, where he was of counsel. Before that, he practiced with Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson; Simmons & Simmons; and Deacons.

Gregory Shumaker, the firm's Washington, D.C.-based global disputes practice leader, said Ngo's skills in both litigation and arbitration make him an excellent addition to the firm's global disputes team.

Since last March, Jones Day has been representing Chinese technology giant Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. in several U.S. lawsuits. Washington, D.C., partner and U.S. Supreme Court advocate Glen Nager is leading a team alongside appellate partner Ryan Watson on a constitutional challenge of a section of the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act that banned U.S. government agencies from purchasing goods and services from Huawei. Nager is also leading a separate case, alongside partner Michael Carvin, against the Federal Communications Commission for prohibiting small American carriers from using federal subsidies to purchase Huawei equipment.
